Erika
Counselor
Hi, I’m Erika!
I am a school counselor specialising in mental health, pediatric nursing and wellbeing, child protection and residential/boarding programmes.
I have a MSN in nursing from Xavier University and a certificate in international school counselling from San Diego University. I have worked in Mozambique, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany in hospitals, schools and non-profit organizations focusing on children and adolescents.
After initial experience at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, working in both the Bone Marrow Transplant and Pediatric & Adolescent Psychiatry departments, I relocated to the UK and spent eight years as a school nurse in private and state boarding schools, where I worked with students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. During this time, I was part of the Child Protection Team and began delivering workshops on sexual health and relationships, health and wellbeing, while providing one-to-one support to students.
After moving to Berlin in 2021, I have been working as the School Counsellor in boarding at the Berlin Brandenburg International School, and served for two years as the Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism Coordinator across the whole school.
I am dedicated to supporting young people through a holistic approach, while respecting confidentiality. I facilitate workshops on supporting schools in both residential and classroom environments, in addition to staff professional development on topics such as affluent neglect, executive functioning and differentiated support.
As an international educator, I am committed to celebrating the unique cultural identities of students and helping them navigate the challenges of being "third culture kids." I collaborate with school staff to develop policies and practices that ensure students, especially those far from home, receive the care and support they need.
I grew up in the United States and Austria and I am fluent in German and English.
